Nebraska State Soccer announces that Ed Meitzen has been hired as the organization’s new Nebraska Olympic Development Program Director for the 2023-2024 soccer year.
Coach Ed is currently the Head Coach for Lincoln North Star High School going into his fifth season with the program. Under his guidance, the program has won its first two district games in the school’s 21-year history in 2022 and 2023. He has also coached in the club soccer for Sporting Nebraska FC for the past six years and has been active with both the Nebraska ODP program since 2019 and USYS ODP as a staff coach on the Midwest Region since 2020. Previously he was involved in Dakota ODP for two years.
Meitzen served as Goalkeeper coach for Iowa Western Community College in 2022-23 helping the team capture the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Title. Under his guidance all three keepers at one point in the season earned NJCAA National Goalkeeper of the week honors. Prior to IWCC Meitzen worked as Assistant/GK coach for Men’s and Women’s Soccer at Southeast Community College helping to launch both programs in 2020.
Meitzen holds his USSF D License, United Soccer Coaches Advanced National, and Goalkeeper licenses.
NSS is excited for the plans Coach Ed has for the program this year and beyond including a winter-based training schedule, exciting guest coaches, additional friendly competitions, new event participation for our teams and a spring International trip for available age groups.
Tryouts for the 2023-2024 ODP player pool will take place August 5-6 in Omaha with additional Player ID Clinics in other communities to be announced soon. You can follow announcements and updates regarding ODP at nebraskaodp.teamapp.com.
