Nebraska State Soccer is proud to offer an expanded menu of coaching education courses available for our members.

Hosting a Course

If existing offering don't already accommodate the coaches in your community, clubs may request to host a course throughout the year  Hosting requirements include assigning a person to coordinate an appropriately-sized outdoor or indoor facility, and who will publicize the course to your community.  Classes will have minimum participation, if your club cannot meet the minimum required candidate sign ups your course may be offered to the general public.

Explanation of the new US Soccer Coaching Pathway

How to Advance in the Coaching Pathway

A unique combination of three of the eight Grassroots Licenses (replacing the E and F Licenses) now formally represent the prerequisite to progress to the U.S. Soccer D License. New coaches will use the U.S. Soccer Digital Coaching Center to sign up for, and complete, a minimum of three grassroots courses, in the form of two in-person courses and one online course:

  • Two in-person courses (one of which must be the 11v11)
  • One online course across any of the four levels (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11)

What if I already took the F or E license?

Coaching candidates who have already completed or begun to take the E or F License courses will have the following opportunities to use those certifications toward the D License prerequisites:

USSF Coaching Education- Club Hosted


In-Person Grassroots License Details ($65 per student-coach + facility cost & instructor transportation if needed)
Course Length: All In-Person Classes Are Four Hours (can be two hours virtually and two hours in-person)
Prerequisite: Must complete the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching

• 11v11: Understanding basic needs of the U13+ player, structure of a Play-Practice-Play training session, and the basic tasks of a grassroots coach
• 9v9: Understanding basic needs of the U12 player, structure of a Play-Practice-Play training session, and the basic tasks of a grassroots coach
• 7v7: Understanding basic needs of the U10 player, structure of a Play-Practice-Play training session, and the basic tasks of a grassroots coach
• 4v4: Understanding basic needs of the U6/U8 player, structure of a Play-Practice-Play training session, and the basic tasks of a grassroots coach
Minimum student-coach required: 10
Club must be able to provide age appropriate team for field session work

D License Grassroots License Details ($275 per student-coach + facility cost & instructor transportation if needed)
Course Length: 16 weeks (12 weeks virtual and four Sundays in person)
Prerequisite: Must complete two in-person Grassroots Licenses and one online Grassroots License.

Objectives of the D License is to facilitate coach improvement in the Six Tasks of a Coach with an emphasis on developing the team and individual players by learning how: • to demonstrate an understanding of developmental stages & age characteristics • to observe the game, recognize formations and all player actions • to further develop a comprehensive understanding of Play-Practice-Play methodology • to organize, execute and reflect on 2 Play-Practice-Play training sessions based on the same goal in 1 week • to demonstrate an understanding of how to inform, involve and inspire parents

Free Courses Options

The following courses are FREE for coaches and clubs who are members of Nebraska State Soccer Association:

Coach for Community Course

Course Length: In-Person two to three hours in length with half lecture and half field.
• The objective of the C4C Course is to introduce grassroots coaches to the US Soccer philosophy
of creating player-centered environments that focus on Fun, Dignity and Respect, Safety and
Development.

NSS Virtual Systems of Play Interactive Webinar
Course Length: Virtual two-hour webinar
• Objective of this webinar is to have short instruction on establishing a club system of play, and then creating supporting systems of play for the 9v9, 7v7, and 4v4 game models to help players “grow up” through the club age groups.


NSS Virtual Player Development Pathway Interactive Webinar
Course Length: Virtual two-hour webinar
• Objective of this webinar is to introduce coaches within the same club to the Nebraska State Soccer player development pathway, and how it applies to the four game models (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11). Giving coaches within the same club a framework to create ages and stages that are appropriate and in alignment with a pathway together.

United Soccer Coaches Course- Club Hosted


Foundations of Coaching Level 1 Diploma ($60 per student-coach + facility cost & instructor transportation if needed)
Course Length: In-person for three hours

• Introduction to the “Six S’s” of Youth Coaching
• Learn the difference between a drill and an activity related to skill development
• Learn how to apply the acronym REST to a small-sided game to enhance skill development

Foundations of Coaching Level 2 & 3 Diploma ($75 per student-coach + facility cost & instructor transportation if needed)
Course Length: In-person for five hours

• Level 2: Define the difference between a drill vs activity related to skill development, designing a player-centered activity, an introduction to practice design methodologies
• Level 3: Coaches have an opportunity to create a lesson plan, coach in a game, and discussing the “Simple” concept (how coaches can transfer knowledge to understanding)

National or Advanced National Diploma (pricing and registration set by United Soccer Coaches)
Course Length: Five days plus a virtual assessment by video

National Diploma will acquaint the coach with the technical, tactical, psychological, and physical needs of soccer players and provide an organized and progressive methodology of coaching those needs. The application of technical and tactical knowledge on the field is the central theme of the course. The course includes sessions on the teaching process, principles of play, the importance of leading, physical, and psychological application to develop the player and team.

Advanced National Diploma emphasizes training players within a team concept designed to produce a successful environment. The curriculum includes team organization and training, advanced methodology, analysis and understanding systems of play, a focus on tactics within thirds of the field, technical position overviews, match analysis, and the psychological aspect of coaching.
